You will prepare and submit a term paper on The Older People and Internet Technology. Your paper should be a minimum of 1250 words in length. Social media enables organization stakeholders like older people to have a voice, based on their own terms (Benkler 2011).
The social media players attract huge global interest. Twitter has more than 500 million international users who are active. In the United Kingdom alone, Facebook has users who number more than 30 million. Internationally, YouTube is visited by 800 million people on a monthly basis. The usage of Twitter is diverse and ranges from organizing revolutions to the illustration of breaking news like for revolutions. Various internet usage researches explain that older people above 60 years form the fastest increasing demographic, in terms of accessing the internet (Gentle 2012). As the present population ages, internet usage will improve with time naturally. Thus, diverse social media channels should be promoted.
To further understand internet usage trends of the older population, qualitative research will be conducted between April 6, 2015, and April 10, 2015. The research study will analyze a sample of 50 older people, who will be chosen through random sampling. The respondents will be subjected to one-on-one interview sessions, and they will be expected to answer five structured questions. The Five questions are:
The research study will observe very high standards of ethics. The anonymity of all the respondents will be ensured. The respondents will only be identified using the initials of their names. Anonymity ensures the protection of the identity of the respondents. The information provided by the respondents will be handled with the confidentiality that it deserves. The data will be used for only academic purposes, and the findings will be available only at the university library. However, the research team will forward all the respondents a softcopy of the research findings. The respondents are also highly encouraged to provided feedback .on the findings of the study. Adequate permission will be sought from older adults to participate in the research process. They will be contacted and then requested to sign a consent form.
