Discussion must be at least 75 words NO PLAGIARISM
Week 5
Bernoulli’s Principle
In this discussion, you have the option of answering either of the following questions; however, you are welcome to answer both if you would like. Please respond to at least one of the following discussion topics and submit your post to the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length. Then, make at least two thoughtful responses to your fellow students’ posts.
Question A
You are the leader of a major aero-defense manufacturing plant. You build fighter-jets. You travel nearly 90% of the time for business. You find yourself on a commercial airplane preparing to take-off. The plane begins traveling down the runway at 170 miles per hour. At this very time, you lean back in your seat and remember your college physics course and the principle of lift.Explain this principle and how it relates to all air travelers everywhere.
Question B
Roofs of houses are sometimes “blown off” during a tornado or hurricanes. Explain this using Bernoulli’s principle. Can you think of other examples where this effect is observed or used? Many times you read people should open certain windows to reduce the effect and possibility of the roof being lifted and house exploded.Give it some thought, “Google it”, explain clearly why your chose your example and explain the physics. Properly cite any references and information you use.
Week 6
Vibrations, Waves, and Sound
Discuss examples of everyday vibrating objects that exhibit SHM, at least approximately.
Please do not repeat the same answer from other classmates!
Week 7
A Grandfather’s Clock
Discuss how a grandfather clock (a pendulum clock), accurate at 20oC, will run fast or slow on a hot day (say, 30oC)?
Knowing this, what other things in your home will run differently based on temperature?
Week 8
Thermodynamics
Diss how the conservation of energy law explain whys the temperature of a gas increases when it is quickly compressed, whereas the temperature decreases when the gas expands.
Give an example of where you would see this law in practice in your everyday life.
