For this entry you will describe how artists use the visual elements to create optical and illusionistic effects, using light as an example. This will be covered in chapter 3 of your textbook. Please include an example of a work not listed in your textbook(along with an embedded image) of a work of art made using light as a primary medium. Describe how it is used to suggest volume and discuss why in your opinion you think it is or is not successful at using light as a medium and why.
For example, shown below is “Untitled”, the 1969 work, by light artist Robert Irwin. The piece is made from a back-lit half-dome of plexiglass mounted onto the wall from behind. Although the physical work consists of only one sphere, several other spheres appear to be floating around the center or near the focal point of the work. The silver bar in the middle of the piece might look cut away to some people. The illusion is created somewhat seamlessly and it is hard to see where the light begins and the work ends. The floating spheres give the work depth by suggesting volume that isn’t really there, making it an extremely successful artwork that uses light as a primary medium.
Please be sure to list the tombstone information for your chosen work, it MUST include actual light.
