For this assignment, write about the meaning and function of one of the following:

• artists unknown, Sculptures from the Kingdom of Ife, The British Museum; 
• artists unknown, Sumerian Figurines of Tell Asmar, Metropolitan Museum of Art; or 
• artists unknown, The Terra-Cotta Army of Qin, Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum (this museum’s website is not secure; better to search the Metropolitan Museum of Art for “Qin terra-cotta soldiers” and “age of empires”).

In your assignment, be sure to clearly identify the group of artworks you have chosen, and provide a brief overview including the name of the artworks, year or era created, medium, and the culture in which they were created.

Describe the power and/or meaning ascribed to the works and how this reflects the values and/or beliefs of the culture in which they were used. How did the objects function within their culture? Do you consider the objects works of art or craft? In one sentence, explain why.

To support your argument, you must include at least one in-text citation from a reliable academic source. Please limit any directly quoted text to one sentence or less.

Provide an image of the artwork or group of artworks with identifying information in caption format immediately beneath the image. Choose one component of the group of works and use at least one visual element and at least one design principle to describe it.

The assignment must be a minimum of 450 words. Try to thoroughly answer the question without going over this limit. Keep this limit in mind when composing introductory and concluding statements. In other words, your text must be concise and succinct.
