What are some recent innovations in how sculptors work with space?
For this discussion, you will demonstrate your ability to recognize recent innovations in how sculptors work in space. This is covered in chapter 12 of your textbook. Please describe and include an example of a work (including an embedded image) of art that you believe exemplifies a recent innovation in the way we think about space in relation to how it can be used in a work of art. Please use an example different than those found in your textbook or shown here.
For example, Richard Serra’s work shown in the video below, “The Matter of Time” at the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum in 2011 is made from monumental pieces of bent steel. The viewer is meant to walk inside, around, and in between the pieces altering their perception of reality. The work pushes the boundaries of contemporary sculpture because it is not a singular object and does not have a central focal point. The work is meant to be experienced and therefore could be considered an installation. Works like these challenge our traditional ideas of sculpture and how artists can use a gallery space.
