WHAT-
A mini research paper with a creative component as if you were a member of the Harlem Renaissance. 3-5 PAGES
I. MY TOPIC
An essay about an important event or person in African-American history from the beginnings to the present.
PART 1: WHO OR WHAT?
Relate general information about who the person is you are profiling or what exactly happened in the event you have chosen.
PART 2: HOW?
How does the history of this person or event contribute to our understanding of the African American experience in American and how does it relate to our discussion of the striving for equality which is the main narrative of African-American history?
PART 3: WHY?
Why did you choose this person or event? How does it relate to your and your own life? Do you see parallels between it and your own experience or does it strike a chord in you emotionally or spiritually that made you pick it? What can you learn from the topic that will help you with your own life and making sense of the world we live in today?
II. MY “RAVE”
Compose or design a creative work inspired by the topic of your paper. The creative work may be:
A poem of at least 20 lines reflecting on the topic
A short story centered around the topic
A short play of at least 30 lines of dialogue reflecting the topic
A song of 5 verses and 1 chorus reflecting the topic
A set of 3-5 pictures or drawings reflecting the topic
A ballet of descriptive scenarios centered around the topic
A video inspired by the topic
