You will review 2 films that you have seen in theaters this year. Reviews should give the reader a sense of the energy and experience of the film without significant spoilers; if the review is positive, the reader should want to see the film for themselves, while, if the review is negative, the reader should decide that it isn’t worth their time. A-range reviews will feature a distinct and unique voice that communicates (1) what you value in cinema and (2) conveys a sense of personality.
The Trouble with Alien Space Goo – Review by blahblah
As a direct sequel to the 2018 movie Venom, the 2021 movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage follows Eddie Brock’s journey to balance his journalist career and manage a kind of symbiosis with Venom. From the first half of the movie, it seems that Eddie and Venom have managed to create a working system that is mutually beneficial. Although Eddie struggles with providing for Venom’s insatiable appetite, especially human heads. Because of this fact, it creates a tension between the two. Despite these complications, Eddie’s career is taking off. He gains the attention of Cletus Kasady, a serial killer, who implores that he speaks with only Eddie. Due to a violent confrontation, Cletus Kasady is infected with some of Venom’s DNA. From that DNA Carnage is born.
The movie provides many great action scenes, some of which are very gory. Fights between Venom and Carnage are both fast paced and graphic. I did notice however that Venom appears to be weaker than Carnage. I am aware that there is a distinct difference between Venom and Carnage, and this may be because of my ignorance about the character, but I had assumed they would have equal strength and abilities due to them being the same species. Despite this appearance, the interactions between these two characters are what really sets the tone and pace of the film.
Alongside the film’s action scenes, there is also a subtle hint of comedy. Eddie, as well as Dan and Anne, provide some humor to break up the seriousness. When I was watching the film, I had some good laughs. If looking at this movie as the sequel to the 2018 Venom, I would say the viewer will not be disappointed. Those who liked Venom will like Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
