Literary Journalism Paper on Berkeley College medical mission trip

Category: Literature

Implementing the techniques and devices we’ve studied in the various modes of Literary journalism, submit a 7-10- page Journalistic Profile of a person or organization related to your major and/or the professional field you wish to enter.  This is NOT to resemble a biography or SWOT analysis; it is to be a work of literary nonfiction—more specifically, a work of reportage (or literary journalism) that, as Lincoln Steffens once wrote, “endeavors to represent its subject “so humanely that the reader will see himself in the other fellow’s place.”

Essentially, this project requires you to gather information through online (and/or print-based) research, interview, and observation. If you choose to profile a person, then the last two elements are obvious (that is, you’ll need to ask that person questions and observe him/her on the job). If you choose to profile a company or organization, you still need to interview someone associated with it–to gain knowledge not readily available on the web.

  1. If for some reason, you are unable to gain an interview to complete your assignment, your only alternate option will be to do as much research on the company or person you have chosen to profile.

This would include finding articles and or interviews that have already been conducted and using them as a resource. In either case, you are required to thoroughly document your sources, both within your paper and on the Works Cited Page.
