– Visit the “Smart Growth Online” and “Smart Growth America” websites. On the Smart Growth Online site, read about what constitutes smart growth and why these planning strategies are necessary. Click on “Why Smart Growth?,” then scroll down and under the heading “Smart Growth Principles” and explore some of the links and a few of the links listed under the heading “Smart Growth Issues” as well. For individual community Smart Growth project examples, click on “Smart Growth in Action” under “Links” on the upper right-hand corner of our class page where you’ll find “An Overview of Smart Growth Projects” with examples to choose from for Dropbox Assignment 4 (Short Paper 3).
– Choose a city project listed on the “Smart Growth in Action” website. Describe strategies employed by the city of your choice to promote a “livable place.” Using one of the smart growth websites from topic 6-2, compare the efforts to create livable cities in your own area to those of your chosen smart growth project.

– Short Papers should be 2-3 pages long, doublespaced with one inch margins. Please use standard 12 pt. font and stick with Times New Roman or Calibri. Please do not use Verdana. Your own choice of citation style will be allowed. All papers must be in a word format, such as .doc or .rtf. Use proper citation of the original authors, you should reference the appropriate publication, website, or manual.
