This last portion helps you determine whether your recommendations are truly advantageous to you and/or the environment. Developing these analytical skills are as essential to environmental progress as they are to home finances.
You will pick three of your recommendations to examine and do a life-cycle-costing analysis on each. Energy will be your unit of measure and the result will be fair comparison between your recommendation and the present condition. As an example, planting a tree on the south side of a house can cut air-conditioning costs by as much as 50%. A cost analysis would compare the amount of energy needed to deliver, install and grow a tree (costs) to the amount of cooling it provides and reductions in energy use for air-conditioners (benefits).
