  1. Introduction, please address these questions in three to four sentences:
  • Introduce yourself to the class by sharing your name, degree program, experience in the health care field, and state or time zone in which you live.
  • What are your goals after you graduate?
  • Share an interesting fact (or two or three!) about yourself.

b. Reflections on Health Equity We know that health status varies, in many cases quite dramatically, between socioeconomic populations. But why? Watch the video, How Racism Impacts Pregnancy Outcomes (Links to an external site.) (California Newsreel, 2008) for an example of how low birth weight affects different populations and some thoughts on why these differences might exist.

For this discussion post, complete the following: 

  • State your current understanding of health disparities or health inequalities. 
  • Describe what you think would help achieve health equity.

Your initial post must be at least 200 words in length. All citations and references must adhere to APA formatting standards (Links to an external site.).

Guided Response: Respond to at least three of your classmates by completing the following:

  • Introduce yourself to your classmates, describing what you found interesting about their introductions.
  • Provide a substantive response to your classmate’s discussion about health disparities or inequality, stating how you believe their suggestion to achieve health equity would or would not work and what you believe is another option.
